At Last: Nancy Pelosi Should Go To Taiwan
It’s about time the Biden administration showed some balls on the foreign policy.
After days of speculation, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be visiting Taiwan during her tour of Asia, according to U.S. and Taiwanese government officials.
And so she should.
“She’s definitely coming,” one source told the Wall Street Journal. “The only variable is whether she spends the night in Taipei.”
China isn’t happy, of course, given their false claim to the sovereign state of Taiwan.
“China will take resolute and strong measures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. As for what measures exactly we will take, let’s wait and see if she dares making the visit,” one Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded.
China has warned of the “egregious political impact” of Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, adding that the Chinese military would not “sit by idly” if the “sovereignty and territorial integrity” of China was viewed as being under threat.
“We would like to tell the U.S. once again that China is standing by, and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army will never sit idly by. China will take resolute responses and strong countermeasures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said. “As for what measures, if she dares to go, then let’s wait and see.”
Screw that.
