Vivek v. Nikki proved one thing: the GOP debates must focus on foreign policy
There are multiple takeaways from Wednesday’s GOP debate, and analysts and commentators are falling over themselves to judge the performance of each candidate on the stage in Milwaukee.
The only problem?
Most people are picking “winners” based on who they want to win.
If you’re a Donald Trump fan, you’ll declare that he won without even showing up, and his surrogate, Vivek Ramaswamy, was the star of the show. If not, you’ll think his absence was a sign of weakness.
If you’re a Ron DeSantis fan, you’ll think he remained poised and focused. If not, you’ll think he faded into the background.
If you’re a Vivek Ramaswamy fan, you’ll celebrate his energy. If not, you’ll think he was annoying.
And if you’re a Chris Christie fan…good luck with the rest of your treatment.
Not only is most analysis of the debate simply a Rorschach test for your own preferences, the same is arguably true when it comes to selecting moments that stood out.
Well, in my opinion, there’s only one moment that’s really worth talking about: Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy’s tense argument over foreign policy.
While this is getting a lot of attention for the Nikki Haley-dunking-on-Vivek Ramaswamy nature, there’s something deeper here: foreign policy should be our priority.
